A Cosy and Functional Family Home with Thoughtful Storage Solutions.

This project was all about creating a warm and inviting family home that not only feels stylish but also functions seamlessly for everyday living. With a focus on maximising storage and maintaining a sense of openness, we carefully designed each space to offer both practicality and comfort, ensuring that every corner serves a purpose without feeling cluttered.

The colour palette was chosen to evoke a sense of calm and warmth, with soft neutrals forming the foundation of the design. Gentle tones of green and blush pink were layered throughout the home, adding depth and character while keeping the overall look light and airy. These hues, inspired by nature, bring a feeling of tranquillity and softness to the interiors, making the space feel instantly welcoming.

The result is a beautifully balanced home that feels both timeless and contemporary, where comfort meets practicality in a space designed to be truly lived in.

The Brief

The clients wanted a warm, welcoming family home that balanced beauty with genuine practicality. With a young family to consider, storage was a primary concern, and the brief called for smart, built-in solutions that would keep the home feeling calm and uncluttered without sacrificing style. They wanted spaces that felt cosy and inviting, suited to busy everyday family life while still offering the refined, considered aesthetic of a well-designed interior. The palette was to feel soft, natural, and serene, creating a home that every member of the family would feel comfortable and at ease in.

Constraints

The principal design challenge was meeting the dual demands of a young family's practical needs alongside the desire for a stylish, elevated interior. Storage needed to be generous enough to support busy family life without dominating the rooms or making them feel heavy and closed in. The design also had to work across spaces with very different functions, from a formal sitting room to young twins' nursery, while maintaining visual cohesion throughout. Achieving a palette that felt warm and characterful without becoming dark or oppressive in rooms that relied on natural light required careful consideration at every stage.

Design Approach

The design was built around the idea that storage and style need not be in tension. Rather than treating built-in storage as a functional afterthought, it was made a centrepiece of the living room, with floor-to-ceiling bespoke shelving units flanking a linear gas fireplace, combining display, concealed storage, and ambient lighting into a single considered architectural feature. This set the tone for the approach throughout the home: purposeful design elevated through thoughtful material and finish choices. The soft neutral palette was established as the foundation from the outset, with warm creams and ivories on the walls and flooring allowing the richer accent tones of caramel, blush, and sage green to read clearly without competing. Each room was considered individually while maintaining a thread of cohesion through consistent hardware, soft furnishings, and a shared warmth of tone. The children's nursery was designed to be genuinely delightful and age-appropriate, without stepping outside the design language of the wider home.

Materials & Styling

The bespoke built-in shelving units are the signature feature of the project, with warm walnut timber back panels and integrated LED strip lighting creating a rich amber glow across the display shelves, set above white painted cabinetry with brushed nickel round pulls. The same hardware language is carried through to internal doors and fitted furniture throughout, providing quiet continuity from room to room. Soft furnishings lean into warmth and texture, with cream boucle ottomans, caramel and taupe upholstery, and linen-mix curtains in warm neutral tones. A woven herringbone textile adds subtle pattern without disrupting the overall sense of calm. The nursery is anchored by a deep sage green fitted wardrobe, introducing colour in a considered way and connecting the room to the nature-inspired palette used across the home. Blush pink accents in cushions, framed prints, and accessories give the nursery warmth and personality without being overtly themed. A linear gas fireplace with a white surround provides a focal point in the living room, framed beautifully by the lit shelving on either side.

The Outcome

The completed home achieves a rare balance as it is beautiful and considered in every detail, yet feels entirely natural to live in with a young family. The bespoke storage solutions have transformed the way the space functions, giving the family generous room to keep their home calm and organised without the interiors feeling like they are working against them. The soft, nature-inspired palette creates genuine warmth and tranquillity throughout, while the consistency of materials and finishes ties the home together as a cohesive whole. The nursery sits comfortably within the wider design story, feeling special and personal without being at odds with the rest of the house. This is a home designed to grow with its family. Practical and elegant in equal measure, and deeply personal in its feel.
